CSSD North Park has partnered with the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego for the past 3 years, and on Thursday, May 18th, the museum will be hosting its annual CCSD art show! The theme of this year’s show is Symbolism, with a focus on photography.
This is a FREE event that is open to the public from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and is located at 1100 Kettner Blvd. San Diego, 92101.
Students met weekly during art tutoring sessions to discuss the significance of using images and symbols to help drive a narrative. Field trips to the Museum of Contemporary Art were also conducted, where the theme of symbolism was further investigated. Students also took part in a critique with a museum exhibit educator. As a result, students were able to understand the importance of self-reflection, as well as allow another person’s perspective to positively aid in the creative process.
Students were prompted to think critically about what they wanted to make as well as how they could best display their pieces. Though many of the art pieces were done independently, students collaborated with each other on ideas for projects and mediums to use.
The photographs and paintings the students will be displaying help tell each artist’s story. The showcase will be a shared experience outlet, as those who attend the event can view the artwork as well as interact with it.
